Now, the Full Story
There is a lot that you can’t fit into a Twitter profile. As you can guess from the headline, I am interested in a dizzying variety of topics and am curious about everything. My family even has a name for it - Kerrieosity. The list of interests above really just scratches the surface. I am also, for example, a travel junkie, an amateur photographer, a garden enthusiast, a voracious reader, a decent cook, an enthusiastic hiker and a not-very-skilled but enamored rower. I had my husband fit a desk to a treadmill so that I could walk all day while I work, if that gives you any idea of how seriously I take multi-tasking.
You might think from all of my personal interests that I must have lots of free time on my hands. I don’t. In my ‘day job’, I run a very busy international software and consultancy firm that uses simulation and optimization technology to help large organizations make the most of their resources. In addition, I have authored two already-published books with several more in the works. Above all, I fiercely protect the time that I have with my family, my wonderful husband and three nearly-grown boys.
How do I manage it all? I practice what I preach: First, I use all the technology, tips and tricks that I can get my hands on to make the most of my most precious resource - my time. Second, I get a lot of help, which of course is the key strategy for leveraging your talents, whatever they may be.
Everything I do or am interested in is related to helping make life more fun, efficient, or rewarding in some way. I’m all about making things better. I spent many years getting formal training in optimization, process analysis, and mathematics (I hold a PhD in Operations Management and an MS in Applied Mathematics). In other words, I have a great deal of training and experience in researching a problem, analyzing it and putting all the facts together to come up with a BETTER solution.
My purpose in creating this site, aside from the obvious one of promoting my books, is to share with all of the other over-scheduled folks out there the information, tips and tricks that I have found to be helpful in getting the most out of anything, whether that be related to soccer, simulation, technology or mundane details like managing all of my phone numbers (Google Voice rocks!).
If you ever find yourself wondering what on earth is the connection between the various topics that I write about, the answer is simple: the connection is me. These are all topics that I’m passionately interested in and that give my life color and meaning. I hope that you will find them interesting as well.
